FIRST CAR MEMORIES FROM THE OHIO HEARTLAND
Kim Rankin, founder and chief protection coach:
I thought my first car was the 1974 Ford Pinto Wagon. I called my dad to check to see if I was remembering the year right. He said that wasn’t MY first car. That was the first car that was “available” to me to drive. MY actual first car was a 1978 Dodge Omni. We think it was a 1978, but no one can truly remember. What I remember most about this car is that it was WAY better looking than the Ford Pinto! AND it had a sunroof! That was amazing to me back then. I felt like I was rich and so cool.
The second biggest thing I remember about this car is that if it rained a lot / hard, it wouldn’t start/run. It had some kind of electrical issue that could never be solved.
Kristy Baker, protection coach:
My first car was a 1996 Ford Escort. It was a stick shift and I did not know how to drive a stick shift!! I actually had a friend come with me for the two-hour trip south to pick up this car and she drove it home for me and parked it in my driveway until I learned how to drive stick!!
Kathleen Grady, executive assistant:
My first car was a 1988 Chevy Sprint. It was a stick shift with no air conditioning and I did not know how to drive stick shift, so my dad drove it off the lot and a friend taught me how to drive it.
Kathleen Colan, KC Media Partners, friend and consultant:
My first car was a 1978 Chevy Nova in electric blue. The 'blue bomber' my friend, Mabs, always called it. I banged up this car, smashed up this car, got a DUI in this car, did a lot of kissing in the back seat and once in the middle of winter in 1989 at the BP station on Superior Ave. around East 26th in Cleveland, Ohio, some guy says, “You look too good to be driving that car!” Guys were always catcalling in those days but talk about an ego boost... I think!
